"You can use this service if all of these apply:

you have received a letter from the NHS or the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) saying you're at high risk from coronavirus
you're aged 18 or over
you live in England
When you apply, we will check you're on the shielded patients list of people at high risk from coronavirus. If you have received a letter about this, you're on the list.

We'll share your name and address with a partner provider working with DHSC and they will send you 4 months' supply of supplements from January 2021.

You can make 1 application for vitamin D supplements. You need to apply before 4 January 2021."

I seem to be on the 'high risk' list, even though the reason for me originally being placed on it (chemotherapy) no longer applies.

However I doubt that I'll be applying, simply because I've already got several month's supply of high-strength Vitamin D tablets in my kitchen cupboard.

This is madness - God alone knows what the admin costs are?

I can (and do) buy Vitamin D supplements from Aldi which (at two per day instead of 1) give me the high dose recommended for old gits of 50mcg of Vitamin D per day - at a cost of under 2p per day.

That's around 50p per month - £2 for a whole winter.

I'd bet on it costing more like £20 - £30 per head when the NHS supplies it - shocking waste of money.

Typo - that should say 25mcg - but even if you go to the upper limit recommended of 50mcg that's still only £4 for a winter - I bet the 'free' NHS provision costs near to ten times that if costed properly.
