Both last night and the night before after lights out, I heard cat growling, and meowing. I realised last night that it was Cleo doing the growling, and Tubby meowing. Thought it was the other way around.
Cleo has slept on the bed both nights...near my head. She's not shown any interest in going downstairs yet. I don't think Tubby has ventured up either. He's obviously aware, and I assume curious.
She's relaxed otherwise, affectionate and eating well.

Looks like Miss Cleo will be the dominant kitty Pasta ?
Question Author
Well...she *is* female.... ;)
Question Author
Interesting if so...as she was jumped on and bullied a bit by the bigger cats where she lived previously.
She is telling him she is here, being dominant. Hopefully she will go downstairs and interact with him. Two of mine still act like this after two years but will walk by each other with no problem
My cousin has two cats. One lives upstairs, one downstairs. They’re both perfectly happy.
Couldn't wait for your updates but my relief is quite apparent.

Mrs sqad says " that's nice of pasta"

LOL....lol.....
Question Author
Do I detect a bit of sarcasm dear Sqad?
I wish Mrs Sqad came on AB...I bet we'd get on famously ;)

Tubby is being a wuss...faced by a tiny but strong female....
when it comes to animals, in a "fight" between girls and boys, the girl will always come out on top.
I had 2 male dogs, one of whom was an aresey little sod, top dod, in charge, bossy as hell. We introduced a female puppy and he was completely cowed (and grumpy about it too)
Question Author
Aren't females often the better hunters? Plus their natural instinct is to protect and defend.
Have you considered renaming Tubby?! We called one of ours Flash. He would never come when called and actually walk away. After being renamed Marmie (he is a marmalade) he comes running when called. He also took about 3months to become friendly and social after being found as a stray, we only knew he was around because his food was eaten and litter box used.
Not with my two cats bednobs, brother and sister. She would be asleep in an armchair and he would suddenly leap on her and get her by the throat. She couldn't move until he let go. The funny thing was, maybe an hour or so later, she would be sitting in front of the fire and lift up her paw and swipe him as he walked by. Long gone now bless them.
Question Author
I think cats are just argumentative creatures and like to stir. ;)

calmick...he came to me named Jesse...which would not be my first choice as a cat name. I found myself mentally referring to him as Tubby before I even got him, as he looked like a round chubby bundle.

They've met...and no bloodshed so far.
Last night I was just falling asleep when I heard growling and meowing. Raised my head to see Cleo by my feet, and Tubby backing out of the room.
This morning, Cleo came downstairs. As she was exploring I heard a bit of noise. Tubby had moved to a corner from his hiding place under the sofa. Cleo went up to him...waved a paw in his face...then backed off. I then distracted them by feeding each in their seperate places. Cleo came into the lounge again a bit later...she ignored Tubby this time. This is getting interesting ;)
My two were siblings, Frankie was a wimp and a mummy's boy - very sweet lad. His sister Merlin was a bully and a total psychopath. One minute I would be speaking to her and the next minute she would try to a chunk out of my arm. Frankie was bullied by her.

Cats are unpredictable.
I visit a local animal sanctuary and they have a room where people can go and sit and fuss the cats, there are often a dozen or more in their own beds spread around the room on windowsills and armchairs, and they virtually all ignore each other. Some will come straight away for a fuss and others will let you stroke them but won't come to you and others make it clear they are not for fussing! Very few actually interact with other cats.
Lankeela, I've usually found the same with cats, they more tolerate than appreciate each other... unless possibly they were very young litter mates.
With any species, it seems less likely for opposite sexes to actually fight with each other. That's usually the best "match", but also, it always seems to be the female in charge.
Have they both been "done" pasta? It all looks promising though. Tubby coming into your room, etc.
Question Author
Yes...they are both done.
Cleo tried swiping Tubby again. Then walking away. He's not made any particularly aggressive moves. It's more like " why you smacking me?...I haven't done anything "
