2 Small Holes In Door For Handles

Sorry to make yet another thread but this question got lost in another one :(

The black screw thing attaches in the middle of the door and clamps the handles on the door. I kind of marked both sides where the holes need to go. How do you drill these holes through the door to attach the handles? Do you drill from both sides and meet the middle? Then put the screw straight through that clamps the handles? Or is there another special way of doing it?

If something is supposed to go right through a door then I'd suggest drilling from one side so that it automatically lines up. Alternatively one could drill small holes each side and then open them up to ensure that they line up, but that seems more trouble than it's worth.

Show us the screws and the backplate that you have to fix to the door with, then it will make sense.
Some plates have holes in both plates others will have holes in one side only .. and some will have no holes at all.

with those you want to fit the actual door catch first then the square bit that goes through, then both handles can attach to that on their respective side, then you can use screws that are slight less than half as long as the door thickness to attach them to the actual door each side.

Having just looked at the pictures on my PC I can now see that you have already drilled the clearance holes both for the spindle and for thumb turn. Obviously you need to fit the latch or lock into the edge of the door.
Once that is perfectly positioned, the spindle should be inserted through the latch/lock. With the spindle in place, the first back plate can be positioned so that it is parallel with the edge of the door. Do this using a small sliding set square.
Care must be taken to make sure the spindle is straight and level.
I would drill 2 small holes into the door through the fixing point in the back plate. Just to mark the centre point for the fixing screws. Then get two small screws .. smaller than the actual fixing bolts supplied and screw the back plate to the door, not winding the screws all the way home, just a partial fixing.
You can now offer the rear back plate up to the door and check to see if it sits nicely in place. Check that the latch operates without binding. If it does, you need to adjust the 2 small screws. If all is well than do the same with the rear plate.
When that is done remove the small screws and get your clearance drill and drill most of the way through the door.. straight and level, before drilling through from the other side and making the two holes meet.
Insert your fixing bolts and tighten .. that it !

For some one who has to ask for help, I am impressed that you have drilled the spindle holes larger than the spindles.
Looks like a professional job to me ! ;-)

Great hehe yes its done and it works as per homers instructions although I did end up locking myself in the bathroom for 40 minutes. The builder we are very far south it takes 16 hours drive to get back to York :(

Glad to be of assistance .. I used to fit loads of locks every day. More often than not I was alone in the property, just like you, one day I locked myself in a bathroom and tried to get assistance by hanging out of the window and shouting at passers by .. someone called 999 and the Police arrived. It took a bit of explaining and they eventually left me to finish the job, only after I showed them a text that just arrived on my phone .. the text was asking me to attend a burglary incident ASAP ..
