Similar to my love/insanity post last night I suppose...
But from my early years, I never understood the point of making a legal arrangement for an emotional attachment with another person?
I'm now 54 and still fail to see why people get married unless there a religious element to it.
And isnt marriage just that...a religious element?

Not knocking marriage, just dont understand it myself.
You're either in a relationship or not.

No problem x

my mother shouldn;t have married my dad, it was against all advice that she did. aged 19 she thought that it would work out. it didn;t because of the type of man he was but she still stuck at it for years after for the sake of us children. In her day there was no cohabitions, as far as i can see.
Perhaps it is for the big wedding, and fancy honeymoon, that seems a poor excuse to start married life with.
when i was growing up, (mid-late 80s ish) there was a "sitcom" called just the two of us. The whole "situation" for the comedy was that they were an unmarried couple living together. Things must have changed very quickly
I love being married. I had girlfriends and lived with two (not at the same time!) before I met my wife. This was different and marriage seemed the natural and right progression of our relationship.
We didn't have a big do - a very small church wedding and an even smaller reception which was a meal in a restaurant that was taken from the main menu, not specially catered. My wife didn't wear a wedding dress and veil but did look beautiful in her new dress and I wore a new suit. It wasn't an expensive occasion but it was very special and it was right for us.
Barry you did what was right at the time for you. Nailit doesn;t see the need.
We adored being married too.

I think all this emphasises is something we already know - people are different and there are certain deep seated feelings within you that sometimes are impossible to explain to others.

Blimey, never expected this kind of response to a thread.

Just a couple of things though...

//nailit walked away with seemingly no regrets from any number of relationships. His choice//

1)Where have I indicated that I had no regrets?
2) Where have I indicated that relationship break-ups have been my choice?

Thanks.
Question Author
Dont know why non married people seem to have no regrets from
relationship break-ups or why relationship break-ups seem to be their choice...
But there you go.
Yes, you sure touched on something that had some heart searching and remembering Nailit.
Question Author
Never been married.
Had the heartache though.

Thank God I didnt have the divorce stuff to deal with as well!
Since ssecurity & welfare financially keep unmarried mums there is no need for marriage. Husbands could be detrimental to the mums income. Also fathers could 'serve' different mothers. Poor kids in one home with different fathers might cause consternation between them.
