So The Chief Constable Of Greater Manchester Resigns

Doubtless on a massive pension. Hugely fixed the crime figures. Lied. Disgraceful. Should be in prison.

It is surreal that he tried to get long-term leave/retirement citing an 'inner ear infection'. That was after learning he was for the high jump. Don't think we taxpayers should pay his enormous pension and he should be disqualified for pension entitlement through lying, cheating, and incompetence. Burnham is one heck of a charmer. He plays the game well. But, of course, he's another chancer. Loves playing the Man of the People game.
Had a burglary a few months ago. Pain. Not much taken. Had locks changed. I knew who did it. Police said they would visit me and visit the person I named as the offender. Her fingerprints were here and I was careful not to disturb them. Got crime number. They have not turned up and they haven't seen her. Complete waste of time.

Patel is an utter hypocrite too, the Home Office and the Home Secretary should have been on top of this, not gloating (for political advantage) from the sides when Greater Manchester’s public has been gravely let down.

Manchester, wonderful place it is. Love it. But it can't be good that every single council seat is Labour. There is absolutely no opposition, Tory, Lib Dem or Ind. Burnham's populist posturing re Covid seems to have achieved zero. Would like to think that the wonderful city could do better. Don't have the answer but the city needs something more.

Leaving aside what he's said to have done or not done for a moment, why is it that as soon as a police officer is under suspicion of incompetence or wrongdoing, the call comes to deprive them of their pension? In any other job you can commit a murder but not see your company pension threatened. Currently police officers contribute around 13% of their pensionable earnings to the pension scheme. Are you suggesting this should be simply forfeited as an additional punishment for their misdemeanours? There are only a limited number of circumstances where an officer's pension can be withheld and I believe (though haven't looked it up) that the courts have ruled that 65% is the most that can withheld (which, IMHO is wrong anyway). There are plenty of occupations where the taxpayer meets the cost of an employees pension (mainly because the government has been unwilling or unable to put public service pensions on a proper commercial footing). So on that basis the same principle should apply to, say, nurses. Are you suggesting a nurse should lose her pension if she is convicted of an offence or other wrongdoing connected with her service as a nurse?

crap - why do people write this stuff
Dr Shipman killed people and the Minister with a stroke of his pen, deprived him of his pension. well not quite - it came out that when he became eligible for the pension on his 60th birthday, the minister ( with his pen - - - poised ) wd sign it away
( the doctors asked if he cd do that - well yes he jolly well cd. )
this is said to have precipitated his suicide. Rose got the widows bit
so if you can deprive the medics why not others
god if you are going to pontificate, get it right
