Its interesting that some seem to think that because you have you're car stolen that the owner don't lose out because they are insured, not so true in many ways. If you do get your car back, it can be damaged in many ways other than body work damage, if the damage to bodywork is very bad then the car can be written off by you're insurance company, and you will get the bear minimum market value for your car. There can also be engine damage done that's not always apparent when you get it back, if its been driven at high speed for long periods, and trashed at high speed in the wrong gears, this sort of damage is hard to prove at a later date when you discover it, and even if the insurance company pay for repair, you will suffer the higher premiums in the coming years, not to mention all the hassle of being without a car for a period of time, if you have no hire cover. It beats me why when someone steals a car and trashes it they are not forced to pay back the complete loss however long it takes them to pay it back, rather than a stupid fine and a driving ban of 12 months, leaving everyone else with thousands of pounds loss.
