I have two guppies and one dwarf Gourami. I will be gone for one week. Every morning I need them fed, checked on, and their light turned on. In the afternoon I need them fed, checked on, and their light turned off. My friend will be watching them and the fish will stay at my house which is less than half a mile away from her house. How much should I pay her?!?
Wow, that's an unusual, but interesting question. The point is that they are your "pets" and you want them looked after. I don't live in the UK, but if I were in the same situation I would offer $25 a day because of the two trips to your house. What that is in UK pounds I don't know.
Why would you pay her ?if I was helping you out I would be offended if you offered me money. Go for your week and offer to return the favour .a chance to repay will come up but a chance to be paid for a favour is unlikely .The opinion of an old man .
Offer to pay their gas cost, and then if you know they are short of money double it. if they are not then gas money and a small gift like candy or flowers.
Guppies and gouramis are not high maintenance at all (and don't need feeding twice a day either). I don't know why you don't get a timer for the lights and a block food for the week you're away (1 block you drop in and leave). Anyway in your situation I might offer the petrol money if she's going to drive and other than that just bring back a small gift.
