Help With Coach Lantern Please?

The bulb inside my coach lantern went and I asked one of my neighbours if he could change the bulb for me as I couldn't reach without climbing ladders. Since he changed the bulb, it stays on all the time. It used to come on at dusk when someone approached my home then go off. Now it just stays on day and night. I have found the manual online and I think it might have something to do with the little dials at the front. Could someone explain it to me so I understand what I've to do please?

I have one that does the same thing occasionally. When I installed it, I fitted a simple switch on the supply wire. I just turn it off, wait maybe 20secs, then turn it back on.

Since you may not have such a switch, you can do the same by turning off the circuit breaker (in your consumer unit/fuse box). The one that operates the relevant circuit. (Probably a lighting circuit.)
Wait 20secs, then turn back on.

That simply resets the lantern circuit board.

If not that... then. There is no need to fiddle with the lantern settings when changing a lamp. But, he may have done it by accident.

One of the adjusters will have two extremes... something like a sunshine symbol at one extreme, and maybe a moon at the other.
Your adjuster may have been set fully to one extreme, where it should be set somewhere in the middle (Trial & error to find the setting you want.)

Had to turn off at the fuse box waited 20secs and switched it back on. It's been on for 5 mins now and hasn't gone off. There are 2 dials on either side of the sensor. The one on the left says Time, the other one says Lux. Which one do I need to adjust?

LUX is the one you want. You need to see what it is currently set to.

Thanks for your help. I will have to leave it until tomorrow when it's light as I can't make out the symbols on it and I'm not sure which way to turn the little red screws. There are three screws, the middle one is above a bulb symbol, but I can't make out what the other symbols are. Will try to contact you tomorrow if I still haven't figured it out. Thanks again.

The one on the RIGHT is the LUX.
If the lantern is working properly, turning the little red adjuster fully over to one side will put the lamp on, and turning fully to the other side SHOULD turn it off.

in your PDF, it's the PIR adjustment, page 4 (top left), the left is the time the light stays on, the middle is the sensitivity the right is the LUX level below which it will become sensitive. It is all explained in the "PIR adjustment" section on Page 3 (bottom right page) . I suggest the LUX one needs to be turned to the left, if you do it with the light actually on then it should go out when you go below the current level of day light. The one in the middle probably wants to be set to max (8m) by turning to the right. the one on the left probably wants to be minimal too.

Thanks TTT. I was wondering if perhaps it isn't the correct bulb. Having looked at the one it suggests you use, it doesn't look the same as the one my neighbour put in. The one he put in fits, but I don't think it's an LED, it's just an ordinary bulb with a large screw fitting. Would this make a difference?

shouldn't matter essentially you have a system for switching the bulb on based on the settings of sensors so what actually gets switched on should not matter, eg you could plug a toaster into it if you wanted.

Turn light off/Then set all the adjustment dials to the mid position .Read this then
PIR Adjustment
• The unit must be installed in a vertical position, and fitted 1.8-2.5m above the ground.
• The PIR sensor can be adjusted, allowing the detection distance to be altered to suit the location.
The LUX control level is adjustable between 10-20000 lux. The detection angle is set at 120 degrees.
The duration that the lamp stays on can be altered from (10±5) seconds - (5±1) minutes. The detection
distance “SENS” can be adjusted up to 8m. A small screwdriver is required to adjust the controls. When
adjusting in daylight it will be necessary to cover the sensor to simulate night time.
• To access the adjustment screws flip down the cover over the PIR sensor. Take great care when
adjusting the sensor screws not to overtighten as they can be easily broken.
then adjust the time setting to how long you want it on i recommenr about 2 mins
then adjust sensitivity to where you want ie 2,3 or 4 meters
Then i would go out around time its getting dusk and turn the lux till it just comes on
