Churches are important to focus the mind. There is an atmosphere, a feeling - hard to describe. I only know that I need to go into a church sometimes. I don't need a priest, I don't need a service - but I need to be there. Home is one thing - but some sort of depth happens. I've never met anyone else in a church when going for private prayer, so there is no risk and there is hand-gel at the entrance.

I can say the same about my local pub.
Places of worship must remain open in case significant groups are upset. There is absolutely no reason why they should remain open. Whatever people do in them they can do at home.

Thanks, Mamya...had just found that one. Madness. My relationship with worshipers in my family has been based on teasing and banter but if I find any have been worshiping with others that will change.
They should take up Japanese forest bathing. Much better for their souls and their safety and will demonstrate their caring feelings towards others which communal worshiping certainly doesn't.
