Not wishing to make light of the fear, but one way of looking at it is as follows:
The plane is either going to:
Take off and land successfully, in which case no problem.
Or the plane is going to take off and crash and you will probably die, so end of problem.
But the chances of it crashing are VERY slim so you do not need to worry about this option.
Just think about option 1.

I had this fear too - it was so bad I used to get anxious and panicky weeks before I had to fly. My hubbie is a pilot and thought I was ridiculous - I even resorted to diazipan from the doctor at one point, not great. I had some sessions of hypnotherapy which really helped, it only takes about 3. You can also get some herbal remedies from the chemist or health food shop to help, also Bachs rescue remedy is great for calming. I wish her all the best it really is an awful phobia. Amara xx
I also suffer, so she has all my sympathy. I found relaxation tapes helped. Not just on the flight but a week or so beforehand too. Also I found that if I could get a seat near to the front of the flight (I am clostrophobic) that helped me too and I agree no alchol, that made me feel worse. Let the flight attendants know too. They like to know and will do all they can to help. I have managed to fly to Australia, the Far east, and now my daughter has emigrated to Canada, I have to visit there too now (I have a hard life I hear you say ;-) ). Go and enjoy your holiday and good luck.
you could always try Bach Rescue remedy. its supposed to be very very good although it does contain a small amount of alcohol
