mine in huge pots live out all year round. Not sure where you live? The tops are very winter hardy but the roots are not if the pot isn't gigantic. If you live in a cold area of the country, I would wrap the pots in bubble wrap or frost fleece.
Camellias are frost hardy and it actually benefits development of the buds that form next year's flowers to be exposed to frost. What Camellias don't particularly like is wind, and direct sunlight melting frost on their leaves. So outdoors in sheltered dappled shade is best.
Woof you’ve answered all my gardening questions lately. Great to have your advice.
AKMild - that makes sense re the bud formation and the ideal location you describe (in terms of protection from
Wind and direct sunlight) is exactly where they are now so that’s great!
