Legal use of metal detector
Can anyone explain the law regarding using metal detectors? I'd love to have a go and find some "treasure", and know some sites I want to try, but I've heard that getting permission can be difficult, and that any find can be confiscated. Anyone know about this hobby?

My dad used to go metal detecting alot and he used to ask farmers for permission to go on their fields, and they were usually ok about it. As a good metal detector, you should declare any major finds but anything little such as a few roman coins and stuff here and there should be ok. he also used to detect on the beach. The best thing to do would be to join your local metal detecting club as they can obviously tell you more and they organise places to detect.
Hope this helps a little.
