Morrison's car park......packed solid.
Petrol station....queuing.
Promenade.....bumper to bumper for 1.5 miles
Coast road pavement packedwith pedestrians.
Hot dog and ice cream parlour.......packed with folks ..no 2 metre distancing.
The whole thing of lockdown is being ignored by a significant number of people.
It is madness..............

Burnley started theirs at the beginning of July, then in between I think Rochdale, Accrington and then us in Rossendale .We had the last week in July and first week in August. Shops closed even our local newspaper ones. A distant cousin of mine used to stand outside Woolworth;s building in the town centre and he sold newspapers every morning and evening. The town was deserted as most people had hopped onto the daily Yelloway coach and gone off to Blackpool. Even today one or two shops still adhere to the annual fortnight.
Back in the 60/70/80s right up until today I've never known shops close within the main factory fortnight, of course many shops turnover did drop within that fortnight unless you had a retail outlet near the coast of course. Some few independent shops within major towns did at times decide to have their holiday in the main fortnight because they knew that their takings would be way down, but on the whole all were open.
