Naomi's charity question got me thinking (quiet there at the back) about how adherent should employees be to the interests/beliefs of their employer.

In the Naomi example, should Charity employees work for less ?

I once worked for a privatised Public Utility who "expected" all their employees to choose them as supplier.

One could think up lots of examples :-

Should non-smokers work for a tobacco company
Should vegans work for abattoirs
Should Virgin employees fly Virgin, bank at Virgin, join Virgin Media etc.
Should UK MPs always buy British . . . . . . .

Of course, company perks often encourage in-house participation, but notwithstanding that I would be interested in people's views, and to keep it light-hearted, perhaps a few more example suggestions (this is "the home of natter and nonsense after all")

Anybody can work for any company with the proviso that they can't bring their belief system to the gates, otherwise work elsewhere. An example might be my dream job as a youth with the underwear manufacturer Playtex. I had imagined sexy bras passing through my moist hands but it was just pants.

You are likely to get on better if seen to have the company's interest at heart. But most work to live, not live for the company.

Besides it's in the company's interest to have such a good offering that folk want to buy from them rather than rivals. If your employees buy elsewhere, what does that tell you about your business ?

I worked in a sporting goods store, and shopped (Next door) with their great rivals because they were cheaper, even with my 20% staff discount.

Didn't care.
