Who was Ivy Tresmand?
4 Answers
I found a postcard in a second hand shop with a photograph of Ivy Tresmand. It was taken at the Comedy Theatre, SW1 and has been signed and dated by Ivy Tresmand (1919).
I bought the postard because I was intrigued, although I didn't know who she was. There isn't much on the net about her. I know she was a songstress, I wondered if anyone could elaborate on this for me...

Actress and singer. If you would like to know what she looked like there are a number of portraits listed at:

D=mp52929 though the website is a tad unwell. They are in the national portrait gallery , though not all on display.

At least one of her recordings is available at

Number=2296 This is of Hit The Deck, which was quite popular back in 1927 she starred in all the standards such as no no nanette and had a recording contract with columbia. She was mainly a stage and musical actress, though she did appear in "The Dark Stairway" (1938) a role for which she is uncredited. The university of indiana holds several letters from her to Sidney Woodward, an american journalist. She died on the 2nd of November 1980. Im sure that if you've looked on the web you will have found all this for yourself, and apologise if I cant add to the total. If the NPG are no help you could try the Bassano collection, which I believe is administered separately.
