why is porridge good for you? i have started eating it every day and i feel so much better! usually i suffer from IBS like symptoms but haven't had any since eating this. coincidence? what does it actually do?
Oats contain soluble fibres. These attract and absorb water and so 'stiffen up' the content of your gut. This allows the gut muscles to move the food along properly, instead of having it sit there in a more watery state.
Processed cereals and other carbohydrates can lead to an increase your blood sugar levels as you eat them. Oats don't do this to nearly the same extent.
Oats also reduce chloresterol levels in the blood
Two things - what's IBS when it's at home? I'm asking (because I don't know obviously) because I too have something amiss with me and maybe if the symptoms are similar, it might help me too.
Secondly, I've took on board the comment about losing weight, so I think I will try it on that basis anyway.
