I have moved a 4 year old Samsung TV from Cable input to a bog standard aerial input. However, no way can I access an aerial symbol or aerial input via the remote, nor can I get back to factory reset mode, because the TV asks me for a PIN which it doesn't recognise, nor will it accept the default PIN which is 0000.
I tried various methods from online forums, no good. Can anyone help ?

Google sez "The default PIN code is 0000. If you changed the password in the past and now can't remember it, you can reset it by powering off the TV then entering the following on your remote control: Mute > 8 > 2 > 4 > Power."
Have you tried the Samsung website? It has a surport page.
"However, no way can I access an aerial symbol or aerial input via the remote, "

Can you explain what you mean here? I have a Samsung (on standard aerial) but I don't recall seeing any "symbols" pertaining to that.
My samsung tv only needs source to be set to TV. Presuming previously your cable source was via an HDMI and you would have had source set to whichever HDMI it was plugged in to. That's all you should need to change.
Gettingonabit is right. Just press the source button (probably top right on the remote).

A banner should appear at the top. Make sure TV is selected. If no other inputs are connected, TV should be the only option available.
Perhaps try reconnecting the cable so it thinks there is a choice, then selecting TV.
On many TVs you can 'disable' unused inputs so they don't appear in the list of possible inputs, should be an option in the menus to allow it to be displayed again.
You shouldn't need a PIN. Go into settings and open broadcasting and select terrestrial then aerial
