looking for an older kids' book

When I was in elementary school (1979-83), we read a kids book in the library with a king, handsome prince, his galloping horses, skinny princess, a fat princess, and a beautiful princess.
As the librarian read, students had to make noises for each character. (fat princess said ker plunk, skinny ones said wee, prince said Ah, ha.)
Any idea what this book or story is? The librarian has since passed on and the school doesn't know.
