Is it worth chasing up a pension I paid in to for two or three years in the early 80s when I was employed by the Civil Service? I have no pension details at all and really haven't got a clue as to where to search or who to contact.
Should I just forget about it?
its worth it but its odd youve not had any updates. Theylll find you from NI number. best to write with approx dates, name, address then and now, DOB, NI number, job title, place of work.
Theres a pension tracing service but shouldnt be needed for civil service
are you sure you paid in tho- werent some civil service pensions non-contrib. Or if you did pay in did you withdraw contributions when you left as youngsters sometimes did
I was in a similar position some years ago. I had worked for the MoD in the 1970s and was in the Civil Service Pension Scheme. Like you I heard nothing and I decided to try to find out. This was in 2013.
I eventually found a source who asked me to provide personal details and eventually I started to receive a monthly pension and they advised that the pension was payable from my 60th birthday in 2010 so the backdated amount was paid as a lump sum.
