Transferring Info From Old Iphone To Newer One
12 Answers
My father in law has an iphone 6 and I want to swap him to an iphone 7
He doesnt use itunes or icloud with his current phone. Will he need to back it up to the cloud to swap the information to another phone? Or can he set the 2 phones side by side for them to transfer the info? He thinks his phone is iOS 12.2
Thanks

(Confusingly though, that page says that the host device needs to be running iOS 11 or later to use 'Quick Start', whereas clicking through to the information about it says that it needs iOS 12.4 or later. It might have to be a case of 'suck it and see', I think!)

The newest os you can get on an iPhone 6 is iOS12, while the the iPhone 7 has the newest version iOS14.
iCloud is backwards ( and forward) compatible so you do not need the latest iOS.
Just click on settings, and then your name.
Then click on iCloud. There is a list of stuff you might want to back up, Mail texts photos etc. Click on all those
Do a back up. When it is finished, set up your new phone.
When you do go to settings - General and reset, which will erase anything on your new phone, and put the backed up icloud stuff on there.
This all assumes you have an Apple ID.
