British Woodland Bird.

I wonder if anyone can help me identify this bird. I was out at our local bird hide, all the usual species were there, blue tits, jays, robins etc. I saw a bird I have never noticed before down on ground level near my feet so got a good view. It was, I'd say, about as small as a wren, light green overall in colour but with a bright yellow stripe running from the back of its head over towards the beak. Never seen one before. Can anyone put me out of my mystery. Here's hoping and a big thank you .

I have just experienced the most stunning coincidence. I've not seen a goldcrest since last spring when they often visit a bird cherry in my garden and pick at something on the branches. Thanks Prudie. That makes sense ( a crest of gold ) Yes, I felt lucky somehow. I'll google some pics to make sure but I've every confidence in your answer thanks again. I spotted it in East Lancashire, Wigan area amongst some extensive ancient woodland. Yes we do have some beautiful countryside around Wigan believe it or not, it's a well kept secret ;-) And the town its self is charming. Have a nice day!
