As some of you know that I had an accident 5February. The Police told me they would be contacting my insurers of course and the other guy's insurers of course.

I haven't heard any word from insurers - my cousin had me worried and said that I should have contacted my insurers myself.

I did ask the police that day - when I leave here (the accident) shall I go up to my insurance company now - and he said no.

Is everything I have written above - ok. Will I just leave it or let them know?

reading Sadie's answer - I'm wondering would the police man today have known to look up the incident number like as well as the crime number cos do think Sadie is right.

I'll try again re the incident number

Right a wee update. My cousin has just called and she has rung 101, non emergency number. Police lady was able to look up the number, date and time - no problem. Cousin asked was there a difference in incident or crime - she said no, just comes up on the computer.

She asked why the Policeman didn't know today - she "couldn't tell you". So I'm a little further on.
My guess - someone in the police station asked questions after your visit, attending officer had his memory jogged and finally got round to inputting your accident on the system

And there's more Barry - the attending officer sent me an email with absolute full details - a far longer incident number, name of other driver, his address and phone number.

Now if i had have listened to the first officer on the day who said he would be reporting it himself I coulda got into a lot of trouble not reporting it.

You said you were shaken up and not thinking straight. Is it not more likely you misunderstood what had been said to you?
I think that proves my guess was right
