Wild Boar

A couple of weeks ago a boar came routing around just outside our patio.
It was gathering mouthfuls of grass and taking it into the undergrowth. It did this for a couple of days then vanished. It was obviously nesting.
Today it appeared with four little humbugs. They are adorable. They stayed for about 15 minutes then were sent back to the bed!

I'm envious Caran and I probably would feed them ! Makes me laugh people saying they are vicious and so on, more vicious and dangerous than the human race ?? Doubt it.

Teaching large feral or semi domesticated animals to rely on humans for food never ends well. Watch and enjoy from a distance but don't change their behaviours, particularly the behaviours that make them want to be closer to people. Every year in the New Forest people get kicked and bitten by the "cute" free roaming animals because they have learned to recognise humans and human cars as a source of food. Semi tame stags in rut are dangerous too, as are stallions in turn out with their mares. The humans get injured but the animal will be shot.

Talking to neighbour re boars, he says they won't be here long. She only stays long enough to get them organised then they are off. Not enough here to sustain. Apparently this happened last year but i didn't see humbugs then. They were out playing again today.

You seem to live in a lovely area Caran. I know for a fact I'll never see wild boar where I live !

Last time a saw wild boar was on my dinner plate in Spain. Delicious it was too!

They are very, very tasty Sharon. Best meal I ever ate in a Salle des Fetes was the Chaunay Hunters Annual dinner - venison & boar killed and cooked by them. It really was very good food.

They are a bit of a curse on my golf-course which is by a river with lots of woods surrounding it. There is some king of large grub which lives just under the grass surface ( so a groundsman tells me) which they love to snack on, they make a hell of a mess on the fairways & worst of all the greens digging them up with their tusks.
A couple of times it got so bad they had to erect electrified wires along some parts.
