The thieves are disgusting and appalling. It's common, particularly in rural areas and, especially on farms, that dogs are kept outside. That, surely, is no excuse for theft, the harm to the animals and the hurt caused to the owners' families.
A lowlife tried to steal my sister's dog from their garden last week, luckily she looked out just before he could catch the dog, she screamed at him and he ran. They have attempted this all over apparently. Police on it but no result yet!
It's a crime that non-animal people would dismiss as a petty crime.
It is a nasty thing to do, steal a member of a person's family for, probably, financial reasons. The family and the abducted animal suffer as a result.
The criminals are getting bolder - people are being beaten up so that the dog could be grabbed.
One parent on the school run had a teeny tiny dog on a lead. I don't know what breed it was but I was worried that someone might grab it, cut the lead and run off. Either that or someone would accidentally step on it, it was that small.
Wolf, I had a small dog growling at me once and all I did was look at it! Lol
Another time I was sitting on someone's couch and their great big German Shepherd jumped up and sat across my lap! I was stuck there for about 10 minutes until the owner came back from making tea and got the dog off me. I really am not used to them.
Seems odd to me that these people had 6 dogs living in outbuildings on their farm. All the farmers that I have grown up with have a border collie that lives outside and maybe a gun dog for when they go shooting foxes etc.
I'm sure they are breeding the dogs as the owners said that the thieves took the majority of the bitches and left the majority of the males, so they have more than 6 dogs.
