Smelly Washing Machine Staining Clothes.

I have been in my flat for two and a half years. The washing machine was included in the rent.

It has accumulated black stuff in the rubber lining around the door and has started to smell and stain the clothes when I take them out of the machine.

Can I complain to my landlord and get him to replace it, or is it my fault?

Does the detergent draw also accumulate black slime? Mine used to so I get small cheap toothbrushes which are useful for cleaning tight corners of the draw. Useful for other hard to reach areas as well.

That's what I do Tigger, pack of 2 for 25p in Sainsburys, good for getting in the corners of shower as well.

It not so much slime tigger, but brown marks which I wipe down fortnightly.

I did a 90 degree empty wash with baking soda this morning and it’s come up “smelling of roses.” Also cleaned the filter which wasn’t too bad.
