Overweight

The doctor first put me on a diet when i was just 7, there are many larger people on both sides of my family and i guess being big and prone to weight gain is just in my genes. However it is getting me down! I have lost 5 stone/4.5 stone here and there over and over again. It hasnt been the losing it thats the problem its keeping it off. I really dont eat so much now, not as i used to do anyway, i would NEVER leave anything on my plate and always be known to pinch off other peoples. I find over recent years i physically cant eat everything and am forced to leave food. I also prefer healthier options now. Having been up and down all my life as i said i now find im a size 22 once again and think i shall struggle to move it this time due to my eating habits more recently. Has anyone else suffered like this and how do they handle it?? I feel i am being discriminated in todays society and more help should be available (although im unsure what help i need?)

I don't know anything about helping you, I just wanted to say that I don't believe any child of 7 should be put on a diet, more exercise yes and healthier eating, but a diet? I'm actually disgusted over it!
Sorry for having a min rant- I really hope you can overcome your food issues, have you thought of seeking out a dietitian?
Good luck

Hi Busybee,
sorry to hear of your worries, but I must say i think its fantastic that you've managed to lose 4-5stone before, thats brillient. If you have done it before, will the willpower and focus, I am sure you can do it again. Dont let it beat you.
You should go to see your doctor and ask them for Reductil. Its a tablet that will make you feel fuller longer, and you will therefore reduce what you eat and loose weigh. My friend has tried in and she now 'forgets' to eat. She's lost over 2stone without even trying that hard. However if you get the chance, then combine it with exercise, healthy food options and monitor your weight/BMI.
It can seem a little scary going to your doctors to talk about your weight problem, but they are there to help, and you are more than entitled to get the help and support they can offer.
Reductil is very expensive, however if you show you are serious about losing weight, they can not, not prescribe it (although there may be medical reasons which wont allow you to use reductil - again this is personal to you, and the doctor should explain this to you), but you should be able to use it for the cost of a normal prescription.

yes i was 7 and i can remember the school producing non fattening school dinners especially for me and i had a full length picture of me on front page of local paper for losing 2 stone. I have always been very active - even as a child, always lived on a farm and outside from dusk til dark making go karts, riding bikes, climbing trees, always had a dog to walk too. so exercise is not an issue. I am absolutely certain there is something wrong or different in my body which makes the fat??
I will do that foxy. I have been many many times over the years but dr never seems to have any help. With what i have been eating lately i shouldnt be getting bigger i have a very healthy diet - in fact my husband cant believe how 'good' ive been lately with no effect. Im sick of tryin it just doesnt seem fair this has been a life long battle constantly on my mind.
Well there is no doubt that some families are prone to being large and obviously the attention drawn to it at such a young age was not the best way. However if you are a size 22 it does sounds as if you are eating more calories than your body needs. It is unlucky that you may put on weight as soon as you look at food, have you read the Rosemary Colney books because I have found they really do help by never making you feel as if you are on a diet and I really look forward to eating her meals and her way because it really seems as if you are eating loads. I have found it much easier to keep my weight under control since following her guidelines.
or look into polycystic overies - you sound very similar to me - i know how hard it is and how much peope do not understand. You sound like you have a loving husband (wish i could find one), so focus on the positive things in your life and whatever size you are or are not - you are you and you are a nice person.
Hey! dont get so depressed! i know that weight is a pain in the behind and can be very depressing but all you need is the motivation and i know you think after so long that its not there anymore but it is!
i joined weight watchers and it was the best thing i ever did! beacuse u can eat as much as you want until you feel content but its all the foods you like and whats ever better is your motivation grows every week when you step on the scales and your down andother pound or 2! but the support is unbelieveable!

I do sympathise.
Have you tried doing a detox diet? The reason it is good is because it forces you to eat healthy food. You can eat more of it, and because it is not processed/refined/full of suagr and salt, you don't get cravings for more. eg- there is only so much sweet potato with humous and veg you CAN eat!! After a few days you find your cravings for high fat/sugar foods just goes, and you no longer want to eat like that anymore. You listen to your body instead, and only eat when hungry, and stop when full.
Carol Vorderman does a good one- the book will be in the shops or your library. It's not as "anal" as You are What You Eat, and more realistic. It also makes you feel so much more energetic and happy- so in turn you feel like exercising more, which helps.
