I used to have a book of mirages, they are fascinating and make my tummy go funny.
In the film, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" there is a ship found in the desert. How did it get there?

its fata morgana. I have seen them in real life, somtimes the item is inverted..its actually a bit scarey. There was a thing on a QI repeat recently about the sun doing it at sunset.

I just googled fata morgana. It's rather creepy, isn't it...seeing an object behaving in a way it shouldn't.

I know that it is real (it's on the BBC) but it seems like something that I would see when hallucinating.

Not as exciting as a cat refusing to come down from the top of a train, but at least nobody is getting killed.
Superior mirage. Relatively common in Arctic regions but not in the UK
