I had vaccine 4 weeks ago (1st jab) with 2nd jab scheduled for 3rd of May.
In 2018 I had stem cell treatment where bone marrow was killed and reformed.
Thus I have a suppressed immune system and the vaccine may not have been effective.
So I’m wondering if the NHS will be offering Covid-19 antibody tests to people where vaccine may have been ineffective?
I think some pharmacy offer these years for a £50 charge ,but his reliable are they.

Anyone on here had a NHS Covid-19 antibody test?

Let's look at this in a practical way. Whatever condition your immune system is in that is the situation. You have had your initial dose and one hopes that it protects your from the prevailing variant.....as we all hope. If you had the antigenic test and it came back negative, no demonstrable antibodies, what could you do about it? ..NOTHING. If it came back...

I am too ill to be vaccinated - - drives me crazy
and I wont be vaccinated because Mrs Mopp next door poo-ed alot last week after it
I just wanna put my head in an oven

It all comes down to probability and knowing.
Did the vaccination work?
Will I will be one of the thousands that Chris W said will die in the next wave due to vaccine not being effective?
It would be nice to know so you can adjust behaviour.
Let’s says I had test and it showed I had the antibodies aka the vaccine was effective. Come later in year when society opens up I will have some confidence in eating out , visiting an auction , going to an inside event , taking public transport etc.
If test came back and said I didn’t have antibodies and vaccine had failed then when all restrictions are lifted then I will take precautions and avoid some things in life such as attending auctions , using public transport etc.

@Peter Pendant - Why are you to sick to be vaccinated?
Just curious what conditions would baar you from being vaccinated.

@Bobbinwales - Thanks for the replies / links , I will have a read.

Sir Randy....well summed up.

I don't know the answer at this moment.

I suppose an antibody test in the summer may reassure you,
providing of course, there is not "a new kid on the block."

No guarantees in life which is basically a gamble from birth to death.

@sqad - Im on various myeloma FB pages and it seems many of the American contributors are getting antibody tests post vaccination.

Just curious , I had the AZ vaccine (2nd jab in May). If an antibody test showed it was ineffective , would having a different vaccine via a different manufacturer and trying again be a viable option?
Aka different tech.
Sir Randy........it doesn't matter which vaccine you have for your second dose and I see no point in starting a vaccination programme with an alternative vaccine, but do have your second dose.
Sorry to be so negative.
Question Author
100% having second dose.
Answering with facts or professional opinion can be positive or negative.
In the same way I mainly always receive negative news when I check my lotto numbers twice a week on the lotto app :-)

I think its a huge personal choice/quality of life thing. Happines being worth more than longevity in my (admittedly old and tatty round the edges with some foxing) book

Personally I think Covid-19 will mutate and become like seasonal flu.
Many will be vaccinated , some will have symptoms, some will not and a few thousand each year will die from it.

Of course the perfect virus is one that can spread , give the host zero symptoms and cause almost zero harm....well for a very small minority it can cause ill effects.
That award goes to Herpes 6 in my view.
100% of humans have it by age if 3.
It lies dormant in the body mainly.

that's pretty much what Chris Whitty said.

@woofgang - Yes I agree.
It’s like offering a young life term prisoner two options ;
- Live until you are 90 but in a prison environment.
- Live for another 10 years but as a free person.

Most I'm sure would consider option 2.

I saw a small snippet of him on yesterday’s news , but news was mainly dominated by a family feud between some over privileged people.

he said it last week...he's said it before too, as did JVT

these do exist - gomboola-morphs on the Human DNA - they just sortta lie there but you can look at the sequence and say oo viral DNA. Not expressed and not usually looked on as viral

and latent viruses are usually DNA
this was 'our' one
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(75)91987-X/fulltext
which involved showing some antibodies werent protective. This is relevant to your question

Otherwise bacteria seem to do better if they become MORE virulent as an epidemic progresses altho killing your host seems an odd way to fulfil Darwin. Prof Rushton said to me when I asked 'oh god dont ask me I have no idea.'

ok they arent really called gomboola-morphs
fossil viruses

paper this morning R4 - looking at antibody responses in cancer patients. 155 pts only.
Blood cancers response was pretty crap
BUT then everyone presumed - that the low antibody response was associated with immunisation failure which of course is NOT necessarily the case. (you need to show that the injected cancer patients have a higher covid infection rate than the others)

level ans quality of science reporting on the Beeb is low
