Ford Fiesta door troubles

Hi,

My 93(L) Fiesta has suddenly decided that the driver's door cannot be shut unless it is pushed and locked (or pulled from the inside and locked). It's rather annoying, and was wondering if it would be easily fixable?

Once the door is held tight and locked it is fine, it's just that it won't shut unless it is locked.

I also have my MOT coming up so would appreciate all advice!

Thanks

Question Author
Is a latch the same as a lock?

Also, would I need a new key for it? Sorry for being a bit dumb, I just have no idea! Should I just find a scrap yard and ask for a new door latch then?

And also, would a Haynes manual have directions as to how to get the old one off and the new one on?

Thanks!

a latch is on the side of the door where it latches on to the striker on the B post! where as the lock is usually under the door handle on the outside and where the key goes in to lock/unlock the car hence being called a lock!!
