Forget your summer holidays.
A 4th surge with inevitable lockdown is a racing certainty despite the successful vaccination programme.
Don't blame the Politicians.

The seed of defiance? Don't be ridiculous, Canary.

NJ.....that is clear and basically has been your approach throughout this pandemic, asort of " humane herd immunity" and it may well come down to that inthe future.

Coming out of lockdown too early wouldn't go down well with the scientists, although I feel that the Government would like to give it ago.
I think that most people, feel that this is the last bite of the cherry and would rather err on the side of caution.
The weak link in all this is the public ignoring Government advice on spacing and isolation.
I am always so grateful to read the reasoned responses from NJ about the pandemic because this site is awash with people (some of whom I respect their intelligence and views immensely) who nevertheless think we should stay locked up in our homes and gardens until this virus has been completely eradicated (which it never will) or variants have been tackled (which it also never will), in other words stay home, bereft of the joys of life and in some cases become bankrupt until you die of something else. The world is over. It's depressing beyond words. If that is our future then presumably the vaccination programme is completely pointless and plays no part.
Good post, prudie.

who has said this?
Might as well just all run over the nearest cliff then, eh?

Prudie......that may come to be, which as I have mentioned invokes about of "herd immunity".
The problem is who is going to decide that we are going to open up for business and pleasure, the weak die andthe strong survive?

Not an easy decision.
I know of quite a few companies, some run by individuals and some multi-nationals who are literally banking on May to get their businesses up and running again. They are investing hundreds of thousands. If it doesn't happen then the economy of Britain will suffer another enormous blow and there will be further civil disruption.
They are my words but I have read it from loads of regulars over the months in the hundreds of covid threads. Dismiss it if you want, I'm not getting into a defence with you woofgang but that's 100% what I've picked up, I'm not going to name names except perhaps Sqad as it's his thread - I hang on to his every word and he has been particularly negative about prospects throughout.
staggering. Arrests?
//Prudie "this site is awash... [etc. etc]

who has said this?//

Nobody has said that in so many words. But comments like this:

“…vaccine is not 100% effective and what happens when a different strain mutates?”

have to make you wonder just what is in people’s minds. The virus will mutate (all viruses do). The vaccine is not 100% effective (few, if any are). So if we are going to remain locked down because of those two features, which were well known when all this began, what was the point in developing and administering the vaccine? We might just as well accept that life in any meaningful sense is over, stay indoors, have our supplies delivered by drone, watch the telly (if there’s anybody left to broadcast programmes), get fat, get ill and die (and hope there is somebody around who will bury us). But at least we won't add to the Covid statistics.

And I'm not really joking because I believe the logical conclusion to some of the comments I see is just that.
Question Author
If the question of herd immunity comes to being a realistic approach to the Covid 19 problem and it might, then will ANY Government relay the change in policy to thr electorate?

P.S that is my definition of herd immunity, revert back to normal and let the weak die for the benefit of society as a whole.
It could come to a civil emergency. Thousands are dying needlessly.
//Thousands are dying needlessly.//

What of?
If I'm reading this correctly,
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0163445313003733

it appears that the average annual incidence of influenza - which hasn't gone away - across all age groups is 332,000 hospital
admissions leading to 8,200 deaths.
Perhaps the scientists who are worried about coming out of lockdown too soon, are being overpaid and are not willing to let go of their particular gravy train more than concern for another wave.
My wife and I have lost a year of our lives at an age where we can Ill afford it. Herd immunity, now that the vaccine is being wildly distributed is our way forward.
This carpy lockdown has destroyed too many peoples lives and mental state. Let alone the financial devastation and lack of medical and dental procedures.
Living in a cave is not living. Hiding from the inevitable is only postponing and prolonging the aching fear.
Two excellent posts from Prudie, as usual. Totally agree with her.
Prudie "but that's 100% what I've picked up,"

so your interpretation then? I mean can you quote where anyone has said it?
