how do I prevent cats using my garden as a toilet?

there is a cat in our street which has taken a liking to pooping right outside my front door. I used to have a potted ornamental tree there and that has died after being used as a loo, now after getting rid of the pot it is using the ground again. It really is unpleasant. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this from happening.
We have coca shells there which were also in the pot, do you think its this that the cat is attracted to for its toilet business?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I can't bear going out my door at the moment!

Try emptying a pot of white pepper or paprika around the area, they like to sniff the area beforehand.

That stuff you get in Wikinsons is quite good .It's little crystals that smell of eucalyptus which they hate.I think it's called Get Off or something like that ! You have to reapply them after any rain though but they are quite good.

you get sonic machines too - they are seemingly very effective.

It is said that the only sure way to get rid of a cat that uses your garden as a toilet is to get a cat to chase it away - or a cat munching dog.

It drives a lot of people crazy, the cats don't give a toss and the law is on their side. Cats - you gotta love them.

I put down some pepper pellets and some fine powder pepper and so far the moggie hasn't been back!
