My ‘Old’ Canon Eos 5D Is Not Well.
8 Answers
I have an old Canon EOS 5D that has been well looked after from new. Before Christmas I was using it and the screen went blank. When I removed the Lens The mirror dropped out. I didn’t know what to do to get it repaired. Eventually, I contacted Canon. They have just informed me that they do not repair old cameras like the 5D. Does anyone know of a reputable Canon repairer that I could use to have it repaired and maybe serviced? Many thanks, Bramley.
Sorry if this is incorrectly posted? Where should it have gone?

When (after getting a quote from a company found online) deciding whether or not it's worth repairing your camera, compare the price of the repair to what you'd have to pay for a new or second hand EOS 5D. A Mark I version of the camera, in good condition and with a 6-month warranty, can be bought from (the excellent) Park Cameras for £279. So it's clearly not worth paying a lot more than that to get your own camera repaired. However the current (Mark IV) version of the camera is listed at £2869 from Currys/PC World (although it's currently out of stock), so repairing a Mark II or Mark III camera might possibly be worthwhile. [Those prices are 'body only', of course]
This was a known issue with mk1 5Ds, I’m afraid you’ve missed the recall and free repair by some years :-( https:/ /petapi xel.com /2015/0 5/13/ca non-war ns-the- origina l-5d-ma y-suffe r-from- mirror- separat ion/
