After all the comments about children losing out because of schools being closed why on earth are they now on holiday for Easter for two weeks? Wouldn't it have made sense to just let them have the actual Easter days off?

i have no idea, but my friends have the problem of finding stuff for the children to do for two weeks, all the whilst trying to work, which is not normally a problem to find them a holiday club, but don't think they are open yet.
no, some children may have "lost out" but the ones that matter (as sqad puts it) won't have, or will catch up. I am strongly against schoolchildren "catching up" by having reduced holidays or longer days. my daughter worked harder when she was off than she does in school, and the attention she got to her weak areas made her improve in those areas
ps holiday clubs ARE open - my daughter is going to one next week
i didn't realise they had two weeks off, which seems a long while, until my friend told me the other day.
i have no idea bednobs, i am only going on what i was told by my mate, besides which they hate them all and don't like going, only one stands out apparently and that was a drama, theatre group they enjoyed that.
I get ya - mine hates the thought of it then loves it when she gets there!
she actually breaks up today, so 2 and a half weeks
they don't like them apparently, but will go because mum and dad have work, as she has no leave to take at the minute.

So - the kids haven't actually lost out on schooling because of the lockdowns?
Can I just stand up for the teachers because many of them will have been working throughout for keyworkers children. Teaching is very stressful (as some homeschooling their own might have discovered and that's without dealing with class misbehaviour). They deserve a break, a break they can only take at deemed times ie not during normal term-time.
my SIL teaches and rarely gets a break, even in school holiday time.
some have, if they don't have laptops to connect to the school how do they do the work -
Some schools are open this week but all will have 2 week's.It was always intended that the schools would go back for only a few weeks then a break so they could see the effect on infection rates and be sure the relaxations were still safe. If holidays had been cancelled there would of been complaints family couldnt enjoy the new freedoms in the fresh air. Working parents plan holidays around easter holidays so why mess them about.
And even when schools were shut there were online classes so teacher's need a break and have extra mocks to mark.
my mate has no holiday time to take at the moment - so it might mean taking some unpaid leave, her husband is a teacher so can fit in a little better.
"So - the kids haven't actually lost out on schooling because of the lockdowns"
not all of them - perhaps the ones whose parents couldn't give a crap. Schools have also been open the entire time for keyworker and vulnerable children, and schoolwork has been being provided through the school for the whole year (with the exception of the first week a year ago as it all came as a bit of a surprise)
For everyone who wants us to change the school holidays/terms to catch up theres another who sees it as a fag packet idea, see Teacakes thread related to this
