Direct Debit Or Standing Order Being Paid By Me - But What Is It For?
7 Answers
My bank account shows that I'm paying £17.50 each month to CBSL TVL 75 PLUS 1088122917.
Last year I left BT and went to Sky where I understood the monthly payment was only £25 which included the phone line, email and basic TV. I don't watch any Sky or other films.
It always seemed too good to be true so I assume the amount is for the phone line (and calls?).

When paying for a new TV licence by direct debit, you'd normally pay for the first one over 6 months, at £26.50 per month. Then, 6 months into the validity of your first licence, you'd start paying £13.25 per month towards your second licence. (You pay 6 months in advance of it coming into effect and for 6 months after it's done so).
However, with people who've just switched over from a free over-75 licence to one that they've got to pay for, there's a transitional period where the payments will initially be different. That's why you're currently paying more per month than you'll eventually have to.
