Just had my kitchen part tiled, (100 tiles). I bought all materials but got a professional in to do it. Just got the bill .... £1440. Does this sound excessive ?

crikey yes that's exhorbitant. how long did they take because that might have some bearing on the cost, also didn't you agree what it would cost beforehand?
i had my bathroom done which was removal of bath, no mean feat, new base put in, shower installed for 2k.
Do you not mean £140?
Don't think it matters how many tiles are used, it's the accumulative area covered, i think. If you haven't made a typo, then £1,440 sounds like a massive rip-off. £140 sounds a tad more like it though i bet i could get it done much cheaper here in Burnley.
And i echo Emmie's question. Did you not agree a price beforehand?
I would dispute that invoice and ask for a breakdown. Always get two or three quotes. Always....
i would never just get them to do the work, then ask what it costs, always always get a quote and usually from more than one person/company. I would say that if you pay this you are being stitched up.
100 tiles? Ten tiles by ten tiles. For £1440. You have got to be joking. £14.40 to lay each tile??? No way.
Remember, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask.
a good tiler should be able to give a pretty accurate cost based on whether its a full day or part day and whether any extra materials are needed that you hadnt bought in advance.
1) how long in manhours did it take (£1440 would suggest its took him a whole week!)
2) was there any tiles to remove or plaster to repair first
Was there any travelling time
At that price I'd expect either Bodie or Doyle

That's odd...she'd been a member for several years.
She probably got fed up with receiving peoples' opinions instead of a proper answer to her question. Par for the course on AB these days.
Think she got a few good answers to her question.
So what is a proper answer to 'is this excessive?' if not opinions? I think people were hoping she was going to say its a typo

Ah, I see it has already been mentioned.
Quote 1:
"When it comes to labour, the price will depend on the experience of the tiler, the size of the company and your location, with prices in London tending to be higher. Ultimately, rates per square metre can vary between £20 and £40 per square metre. However, tilers can also charge by the day rate if they’ll be there for more than six hours or so, which can come to between £150 and £200 per day.

There are also additional costs, of things such as grout and adhesives, which may come to £50 depending on the size of the job, and extra costs if the walls need preparing, with either plastering or removing old tiles needing to be carried out.

Common tiling jobs:
All tiling jobs will ultimately come down to the calculations above, with a very rough price of £50 per square metre, but we can break down some of the most common tiling jobs and point out any particular issues which might affect the overall cost.

Cost of wall tiling:
The price of wall tiling can be worked out by the calculation above, assuming there are no significant issues such as the wall needing to be prepared"

"Average cost of tiling: £35 per hour / £200 per day.
Average cost to tile a kitchen: £650"

Quote 3:
"A tiling specialist can charge an average of £150-£250 per day in labour costs depending on where in the country you are and the kind of tiling they will be undertaking.

Depending on the size of the area to be tiled, you should expect the job to take around 1 to 2 days"

I got three quotes. I think that you should have done so too!

£1440 is WAY over the top, in my opinion!
