Animal Welfare Bill

Known as Finn's Law Part 2 has passed its third reading in the House of Lords and now goes for Royal Assent. This will increase sentences from a paltry 6 months to a maximum of 5 years for animal cruelty. Well done to all who have fought long and hard for this, especially Police Dog Finn whose appalling injuries were the catalyst for this Bill.

It made made me cry watching Brits abroad in the sun a few weeks ago, a beautiful white donkey was being looked after by a lady ( Spain) who ran a charity there, some evil specimen had hit the poor animal over the head with a hammer causing a brain injury and it made the donkey have its head on a strange angle, I can’t tell you how much I prayed for karma after seeing it

There was a bit of a hairy moment when they announced that it was too late for the Welsh Assembly to agree it, but they said because there was so much support it will go for Royal Assent anyway, and the Welsh Senate can approve it after the elections.

Animal welfare is a devolved matter and the Act is not a UK Act, it extends only to England and Wales.

As I understand it, the Senedd needs to give consent to the Act for it to also apply to Wales.

I think I am correct in thinking that even if it were to be refused by the Senedd, it would apply to England still.
