Renewing Drivers Licence

Apart from renewing online, which I cannot do, because my passport is not valid, does anyone know if I can download a form, or do I need to pick one up from the post office.

Surely a passport isn't needed to renew a driving licence?

Why can you not do it online?

I think that it depends if you need to renew the photograph. DVLA can access the passport photograph to update it. I got a form from the post office.

you can also upload a photo which is what I did last year

It wouldn't let me and that was the reason, because my passport is out of date, maybe something to do with the photo which is of me, looking 10 years younger, I was hoping to download the D1 forms to renew, but it seems you cannot, so it looks like a trip to the post office, is needed.

If you need to renew your photocard (or you are obtaining one for the first time) you can only renew online if you have a passport. The DVLA take your signature and photo from your passport record.

fruitsalad, I think that's only if you want them to use your passport photo...I am sure I just uploaded one.

you can do it at the post office and they do the picture etc for the fee + £4.

Yes just tried it again on the gov.uk website looks like they have a technical problem now, definitely a trip to the post office.

i renewed my old paper licence online last year when i was 70 by uploading a photo

Looks like you can fill it in online and print it here. I haven't tried this, so just watch out for them nicking your info.
