Will someone please explain to me why the answer to the clue
not much food not much food was soup before it drives me mad!

Maybe short for 'soupcon' (meaning a small amount of food)?

It was food items - its ended now but just couldnt see why it was soup and also if the setter is watching I dont see why the anagram of a fit pear wasnt parfait you dont spell aperatif like that! Now I'll sleep better lol
