Why is the British Olympic team called GB, rather than UK?

I shouldn't worry too much. By the time they get the name of the team sorted out Ireland will be reunited.

I might have guessed it wasn't simple.
It's called Team GB, even thought that's short for GB & NI but it's all about branding and sponsorship so they're not really bothered about offending Ulster folk.

The full name of our country for historical reasons is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,or United Kingdom (UK) for short
