Bedlington Terriers

We are after another dog and a lady who works for my husband has 6 puppies for sale of the above breed.

Has anyone any experience of these dogs and can offer any help or advice.

A walk every day is a plus for us so don't mind exercising!

Most important thing is to make sure the parents have been tested for a disease called Copper Toxicosis. Therefore it is important to ensure they are registered, as unregistered stock is unlikely to have been tested, and certainly no records would be available. No-one with a decent stud dog would let their dog be mated to a bitch that had not been passed clear.

Other than that, they are a lovely little breed, will need grooming regularly, as they do not moult like other dogs, and need their hair taking off. Many Bedlington enthusiaists offer this service to 'pet' owners as they like to see their breed looking like it is supposed to - resembling a little woolly lamb. Just something that needs to be taken into consideration as it can be quite costly every couple of months or so.

They can be quite active, but are happy with a couple of walks a day and are very affectionate.

There are several Bedlington clubs, so google and you will find lots of information. A friend of mine is involved with one of the clubs, and writes about the breed in one of the dog papers, email [email protected]

Great dogs!! but can be strong willed, let them know who is boss, be firm but kind!

They also have very strong hunting instinct.

Thanks for the answers - very helpful. As I said certainly the walking is a bonus. Will check about the possible disease. The puppies are from a known source so I think we may go visit to meet the mum and dad and then decide.
