not having to drag my sorry carcass one more time to the bus stop to go to work, being stuck in traffic for an age, putting two hours on an already long day. I don't miss it.

I once bumped into someone who'd retired since I last saw him and asked him what it was like. "It's like being in heaven without being dead" was his reply. Having been retired for a dozen years I agree absolutely with him.

not having to shower on the dot of 7am and dolling yourself up and listening to the moans and groans of 22 women (large Typing Pool) always in black depression and moaning about their lot (husbands and children) - so far behind me now and I love it.

Quite boring so far. However, i only officially retired in March, so it's a bit too early to be judgemental. May change my mind when my bus pass arrives and i'm taking myself off for days out :-)

Same here , I guess we were the lucky ones Dave, that when companies contributed to a private pot for your retirement , I know someone who opted out with the words

I love being retired, I just don't like being older ! I love not having to get up at ridiculous o'clock in the morning and going out in all weathers to get to the office on time and not to have to worry about 'office politics'. Every day is a Bank Holiday when you are retired ...

OH & I will never retire -thank god! For 6 weeks starting January he was at home recovering from an operation and it was challenging to say the least. We have a mini retirement every Monday, where we go somewhere in the sporty car and do things retired people do - I quite enjoy that, but the thought of doing that every day -no thanks.

Retirement Is.... A few years away. Although i am seventy i am working full time until i no longer can, probably in two or three years time.

Doing things retired people do...what’s that??
Sometimes we lie in till we decide to get up.
Sometimes we start drinking gin at 12 noon and carry on till we stop.
Sometimes we head out with no particular thoughts of where we’re going and end up somewhere we’ve never been before.
Sometimes we stay in and ‘enjoy’ each other’s company.
Sometimes we spend weeks and weeks away from home (pre pandemic) and are glad to get back because we’re exhausted.
Sometimes we sit and read our kindles/watch tv/enjoy being alive.
Mostly we enjoy doing what we want, when we want. No clockwatching, no responsibilities, the world is our oyster and we take full advantage of it.
Retirement is what you make of it.

not getting wet, so staying in when its hissing down, no worries anymore about being on time for a meeting, waiting for that bus in the snow, getting stressed beyond words over the workload.
