I remember eating in one many moons ago but were their burgers the ones that were square?

Still loads of them all over the US, Tiggs.
They always used to be under the name "Wendy's Old-Fashioned."

I can't see them making much of a dent in McDonald's market share, as McDonald's biggest selling point has always been their really low prices.

Eating in Burger King is significantly more expensive though so, if Wendy's can come in at around the same price levels (but perhaps with a better menu), Burger King might well lose market share to Wendy's.

I eat a mostly plant based and non-dairy diet these days but sneak in some fish or seafood every now and then.

Depends if people like the taste of the burgers and the other products .

Given the choice between a McD and a Burger king burger I would choose the Burger king , all day .

Other people will prefer McD .
