I am against this and wouldn’t contribute to the money needed to fund it. If it was out to the vote, I’d vote against it.
I’d also be against the government funding it, as has been suggested.
The NHS, and others, did a wonderful job and I fully supported them.
I really, really don’t want reminding of what’s happened though and feel we all need to move on.
What’s your opinion?

First I've heard of it. I've been avoiding much of the channels.

Best thing Ummmm, avoid it all, I mostly do. I just can’t see the value in this.
I definitely wouldn't contribute.
Why shouldn’t there be a memorial to all the medical staff who were faced with dealing with this virus without the necessary equipment.Although we are now, thankfully, getting to the end of the lockdown it cannot be denied the government was slow off the Mark to react.
No need at all. Caseworkers (and I include myself) are just doing their jobs.
Careworkers...
Caseworkers?
Autocorrect, grumpy.
And very well they did it to visiting their clients two or three times daily.Although hospital staff were more in the forefront I am sure that sadly some care workers were victims of this virus.
A lot of people have been victims. For carestaff and hospital staff, it is part of the job.
I don't believe in funerals, or memorials of any kind, for anyone. The dead are dead and should simply be forgotten.
Stupid idea and where do you draw the line? How many bus drivers died during the pandemic? What about Police and the Fire Service that were spat on? Check out people in supermarkets that worked with little PIP were and swere abused and assaulted because there was no toilet paper left?
There should be a memorial to ALL people who carried on with their job for the good of the community during the pandemic.
Not always so easy for relatives, Chris. Any memorial should be for victims and their families. Not people just doing their jobs.
Pixie probably because I am not a hospital or care worker I view this differently.I work in a supermarket and we have worked throughout the pandemic and we view it as “doing our job”and being in a rural area we have been luckier than many.Although I know nurses etc face all sorts they shouldn’t have had to face this every day without the proper equipment.
There's no guarantee this will be the last pandemic in the scheme of things. Does that mean more memorials in the future? Better to spend the money on mental health or other support for people who have suffered.
Good for you, grumpy... and the same goes for care staff and hospital staff, also often working without PPE.
When it's your job, you just do it. It isn't heroic or special. There are far more others that have suffered from it, without being paid to.
Perhaps a better use of the money wld be to plough it into counselling for the mental health of many of the care workers in the aftermath. Exhaustion and ptsd for many.

Eve, careworkers and hospital staff have actually been treated quite well. Daily covid tests, 3 months extra maternity leave (I don't know if that applied everywhere or not), more flexibility, overtime etc. if wanted. There are already counsellors, if required.
Mental health care in general, would be a good aim though.
