I don’t like fb much but have joined cos there are some groups that I do enjoy that are only avail on fb.
I don’t have any “friends” on fb nor family...
Today I mentioned all the above to my manager n she thinks I have something to hide ... (I don’t.... just feel that I don’t like my real details being out in cyber land)
Am I alone in this? Anyone else use a pseudonym for fb? I do the same on Twitter btw.
Interesting that fb is real .... IS that cos you do have friends / family etc on your fb?
I didn’t think I was that odd using a pseudonym for fb but now I wonder if I am?
Thing is I have no desire for any past friends / long lost family to be in contact with me.,,, not cos I’m hiding but just cos I figure if I’d / they’d wanted to stay in touch we would’ve
I think your manager needs reporting to someone. It is not mandatory to have a FB profile, and even if you had a FB profile in your name it has nothing to do with her if you 'hide' anything.
I made the mistake of joining some 'interest' groups in my own name and was harrassed by someone who still posts on here - its ongoing. The penalty paid for giving out too much info on where you live and what you do for a living. Although my personal FB page has tight security they managed to find out we had holiday cottages and put a fake review on Trip Advisor, as well as doing the same on two other business pages. Their IP addresses are on record now.
Now my 'Pages' are anonymous, tell your manager to mind her own business
I'm another. Fake name on FB and Instagram, don't use Twitter. Like the others here, don't do Facebook friends, and use it mainly for a few music/tv/movie fan groups.
On FB I use my nickname and real surname...the latter being exceedingly common! I use initials and surname elsewhere....you can block individuals access from FB quite easily so it is possible to have have a page without all and sundry having access to it. Having said that why is your manager discussing your personal choices as this is none of her business? I would be having a chat with my union or more senior manager if this had happened tp me
For those of you berating Eve's manager, if you read the OP you will see that Eve raised the matter and her manager merely gave her opinion. So MYOB is not applicable. But hey-ho, why let a fact derail your yen to bad-mouth somebody.
SharonA - me too. My birth name is on f/b (but everyone of my limited number of friends knows it is me ) and I have been contacted by several old Junior School friends for a catch-up and a natter. It's a bonus. I don't do Twitter.
