What Couple Of Days We've Had!!
35 Answers
OH had problems with his laptop. It kept freezing and crashing. He found a company on line that promised to clear it. They charged £31.14 which seemed reasonable. I have to do any phone calls for him as he so deaf. I was on the phone and on line for an hour and a half while they whizzed through all sorts of things. He was told he had numerous Trojan horse viruses as well as loads of other stuff. Eventually they said they had cleared his laptop. To enable this he had to pay £479.99. This was a 3 year deal.
Very reluctantly he paid it as he was desperate for closure. We asked what would happen if he bought a new lap top. They said it would be infected the same as the problem was in the system. So we went ahead.
Later told daughter what had happened. She Investigated. They are a scam company!
Lots of stuff on the internet about them. They are called Restoro.
We emailed them asking for a refund, no reply.
I called credit card company this morning but payment has already gone through. Tesco Fraud company are trying to help but are not hopeful.
Be warned everybody. Check these things out first as we should have done.

With tesco fraud and Jaja fraud. I have to do section 75 claim in 15 and 30 days respectively with no guarantee.
But this morning had a phone call from restoro. After a lot of argy Barry they have agree to a refund of 75% of the cost. They wouldn't budge anymore so reluctantly had to agree on that figure. Will take a few days for it to go through.
OH is still going ahead with buying a new lap top. He feels uneasy about what have they left imbedded in his laptop. So uncomfortable using any personal sites.
So glad he is getting some closure on this.

If your OH needs help in choosing a new laptop, please see my posts at 1756 and 1839 yesterday on Tamaris's thread:

He is too nervous to carry on with his old one. He feels the scam company could have "left things" on his laptop.
He has found one he likes on laptop Direct. But then again that has caused problems. He bought one with is bank Visa card. Unfortunately he clicked on the wrong visa link, a visa electron I think. This failed the transaction. He tried again, his bank jumped in and blocked his bank card. It's taken me all day including one call where I was on hold for 48 minutes.
Absolutely cheesed off with everything. Eventually they unblocked his card. We think the payment has gone through for the lap top.
I will be glad to have an end to this whole shebagle.
