Us Pga 2021
This year's tournament takes place at Kiawah Island, the scene of Rory McIlroy's eight under victory back in 2012. And, because of his win in the Wells Fargo tournament, recently, McIlroy has been cut to around 10/1 favourite confirm his liking for this course. He undoubtedly has the class to do so but, before he won the WF, he was almost double the price and all value has gone. He hasn't won a Major since 2014 and almost every good day is followed by a bad day. No surprise were he to win, especially as he won't have the added burden of my money on his shoulders.
Some of the other contenders are not 'match fit', Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka to name but two. And fitness will play a part as the yardage at the course has been extended, once again making it the longest course in competition. Already some players are saying the windy conditions experienced during their practice rounds will wreak havoc on average scores should they continue into the weekend.
I've given myself a £35 bank to play with and i have used £16 of that bank as follows;
£5 win: Jon Rahm @ 12/1 - yet to win a Major but 4 x top 10 finishes in last 6 comps.
£1.50 e.w.: Viktor Hovland @ 16/1 - one of the most consistent 'off the tee' players this year.
£1 e.w.: Will Zalatoris @ 40/1 - 3rd in last 2 tournaments.
£1 e.w.: Sam Burns @ 45/1 - 3 top four finishes in last 3 comps.
£1 e.w: Garrick Higgo @ 90/1 - form 1-8-1-4, grew up on similar courses.
£1 e.w.; Billy Horschel @ 100/1 - made the cut last 8 comps on home soil.
As you can see, Jon Rahm aside, none of the other are what you would call recognised contenders but i am more than a little hopeful for a run for my money.

Hideki Matsuyama fared poorly on the opening day with 2 over but showed just what a potent force he currently is by shooting a 68 yesterday. a score which puts him in tied-4th place on -3, just 2 shots behind the lead. This fella was 2nd in the Masters in 2017 and won this year's event. He undoubtedly has the ability to challenge for this title.
Branden grace was on my original shortlist of outsiders for this tournament but i can't back them all so he was left out of my initial bets. He has had two steady rounds of 70 and 71, showing he is handling this course.
£2 win; Hideki Matsuyama @ 8/1
£1.50 e.w.; Branden Grace @ 18/1 (4 places)
That leaves £9 of my £30 bank to play with on the final day should i so wish.
