Forgotten Password On Excel Worksheet

I could kick myself. Every year I have used the same worksheet for xmas ideas/presents bought, etc. Password protected it so the kids don't peek, and this year I go to open up the worksheet and make a copy for xmas 2018 - but can i remember the password? No! Is there any way possible to unlock an excel document that you've forgotten the password for? A quick google tells me no, but if there's anyone on here that can help I'd be eternally grateful

It may depend on the Excel version. I was under the impression older versions could be password cracked, but I may be wrong. I suspect later versions may be beyond help.

Keep passwords in a password manager.

Microsoft does not provide help in recovering lost passwords. There are 3rd party software programs that claim to be able to do this, none of which are endorsed by Microsoft and it would be at your own risk. Whether any of them work may depend on what version of Excel you are using.

Thanks all - I know I'm an idiot - i have remembered the password every year for the last 10, but now I'm older I've forgotten it since last year!! it's newer excel and on a Mac (if that makes a difference?!) I can't see it can be done, but thanks for your suggestions.

Its probably quicker to make a new sheet unless you have 12 kids ;-)

It may or may not work, but have you tried an online conversion site - eg. to convert it to a PDF?
