I have a BT line, and am thinking of having NTL Broadband installed.
2 questions: -
1. Anyone had good/bad experiences with NTL/Telewest Boradband?
2. I thought broadband was like dial up where you plug you modem cable from pc to modem/phone socket, but NTL/Telewest say that they install a fiber optic cable. Can anyone explain broadband? BT im sure connect you through phone line
Cable IS a phone line - they use fibre optics as opposed to ordinary cables and wires. All that takes place outside you house, inside you'll have a socket like the BT one.
And broadband isn't like dial up. Connection is virtually instant (always on if you have a router), it's faster, and it doesn't tie up the phone.
ntl are awful but they do provide a cheap unlimitied broadband service. if you can bear their horrendous incompetence on customer service then go for it. I have it and the actual service is ok, just the people you have to deal with when something goes wrong are all, well, not the sharpest tools in the shed....
p.s broadband has a size limit in terms of megabytes or gigabytes, dial up is like a phone line where you pay for the amount of time you're online.
if you have an orange phone you can get free broadband with them.
im in a telewest area, have already spoken with them. If I have the telewest broadband connection added downstairs how do I use broadband on my pc upstairs??
