Blocking Certain Numbers
4 Answers
A few weeks ago some some of you gave me advice about my boyfriends dad keeping his mail.
Well now he has got no where as its all been re-directed to my address he has decided to phone my mobile, boyfriends mobile and my house phone easily 30 times a day for the past week and has turned up a few times at closing time on my works car park and at my boyfriends work we have just got straight into our cars and ignored him and ignored the calls as when we did answer the first few times and try and be civil we just get abuse and threats that he is going to sell all the stuff thats still in my boyfriends bedroom and rubbish like that.
I have tried to contact ntl this morning but have been on hold for 20 minutes. Is it possible to just block certain numbers from calling you? I don't see why I should have the inconvenience of changing all my numbers and do you think the police would do anything yet?? after the mail thing as well. I know the man is just a bully and likes control and it seems drastic going to the police but its really getting us down now.
Thanks Clare

I'd go and have a chat with the local police for their advice, keep a detailed log of everything too and details of any witnesses. At least you've got a record of the fact it's ongoing and they may be able to give you some good advice.
Malicious or abusive phone calls are a criminal offence, under section 43 of the Telecommunications Act, 1984,. Alternatively, The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 covers many forms of harassment involving persistent contact that causes distress.
Try reporting to NTL in written form eg e.mail that you can print off and keep as evidence. http://www.ntl.com/home/contact/generic/custom er.asp
The local Citizen's Advice Bureau may be able to give you more advice and support - http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk.
Hope you get it sorted :) x

You're welcome, hope you get it sorted.
Checked with O2 and they're right, they can't bar numbers at present. Checked with Ofcom (regulatory body) and their advice is:
Malicious or nuisance calls, whether from people you know or from complete strangers, are a criminal offence.
You should tell your phone company as soon as you receive a malicious or nuisance call from somebody. It doesnt matter whether you know the callers identity or not.
Phone the operator and ask for the number of your companys nuisance or malicious calls team. Then tell the team that you have received a malicious or nuisance call from somebody. Tell the team what the caller said.
In some cases, particularly if the caller is threatening, your phone company will advise you to call the police. If the caller is making direct threats to you or your family and you believe those threats to be real and immediate, then you must call 999 straight away. However, if you believe that the threats made are not immediate, then you should call your local police station on their normal local telephone number.
Good luck x

My brother was getting hassled via calls & texts by an ex girlfriend, they were very nasty and threatening. In the end he went to to police, they took it seriously and rang her to tell her if she didn't stop they would prosecute. It did the trick. The good thing about mobiles is the proof is in the phone.
