Check Your Drivers Licence!
31 Answers
Heard this from Martin Lewis . I had no idea your plastic drivers licence has a renewal date. Because of Covid they have extended everyones renewal date by 12 months. I had a look at mine and it ran out in October 2020! There is a fine of up to £1000 if you are found carrying an out of date licence.
To be clear this is just your pink photo card that goes out of date, not your actual licence, which I believe is valid until your 65th Birthday.

Can't even remember when Martin Lewis first started, its been a few years, and yes it started out to be very informative for the not so clued up, on the ins and outs of wrong doings in the banking world, and the like of.
Today you may as well watch corrie :0) He is full of could, may be, should, might, worth checking ( I thought the latter is what he was suppose to do). I've herd of the drama queen, but never the King. Is got all the movements of a weather man now. His rabble is now at the speed of a rapper, and I can't stand rapping.

//Apparently it was illegal in the UK to just have the old paper one//
No it wasn't. And it still isn't. The photocard licence was introduced on 1st April 1999. So, unless the law changes, somebody aged 17 who got their paper licence in early 1999 can keep it until 2052, provided they:
- do not change name or address,
- do not have to forfeit it because they are disqualified for 56 days or more
- do not have it revoked by the DVLA for any reason
There may be other reasons but I can't immediately think of any.

Quite agree tc. Watched one of his shows a year or two back. Waste of time. Prattling off meaningless drivel so quickly it was impossible to take in. Shame really because he could be a valuable source of information if he'd only concentrate on the show and not the showman.

Can I suggest that everyone UNDER 70 goes and has a look at their photo card licence and takes a look at the expiry date.
This has nothing to do with age its the card that expires, NOT the licence. You are not applying for a new licence , but a new photo card
I have just renewed mine on line for £14.50, an easy process.

I don't need to check mine - I still have my original paper driving licence that doesn't need renewing until I am 70.
I don't know how anyone can be unaware of the 10 expiry of photocards, there was a dreadful outcry in the media when they first came out and the leaflet that comes with the photocard makes it clear it needs renewing every ten years
